Sunroom Additions

If you are thinking of adding a sunroom to your home then your first step would be the foundation. It is very important for example if you live in a climate with a considerable amount of freezing during the winter then the foundation has to be deeper than in warmer climates. You will need to level and grade the area you are preparing. Sunroom additions take a lot of consideration before you start to build and one of the most important ones is checking with the building codes of your area. This will let you know what kind of foundation allowed by the laws of your city. If you find that you cannot lay a foundation, then you will need to build a frame foundation with concrete or cement blocks on the outer walls.

Usually people want their roof to be a solid barrier and using the walls only with glass to let the sun in while other people install a number of skylights. However, you need to keep in mind that the more skylights you install the more expensive your roof will be. There is also another factor to consider when using glass on the roof and that is if you live in a climate where you have heavy snowfalls, it can certainly affect the weight that the roof can hold.

The material to use for building your sunroom also greatly affects the cost. This is not always just construction, but it can refer to the heating and cooling and maintenance costs as well. PVC seems to be the cheapest material to use and it comes with some additional advantages offering a high level of insulation which keeps the heating and cooling costs lower. This material is available in many colors and requires very little maintenance. The next step up in cost is aluminum, which is similar to PVC and does do a good job at insulating. This material also has very low maintenance.
